Somfy Foundation worlwide

"A House is a Home” what is it all about?

Somfy Foundation international program “A House is a Home” started in January, 2014. The first actions were concentrated in France and Brazil, with Habitat for Humanity, in the favelas of Héliopolis

The program then extended to new territories: Belgium, Hungary, Italy, Mexico, Germany, Romania, Spain, Portugal, Bulgaria, Lebanon, Egypt, Greece, Poland, India, Brazil, Australia, France and the United States

Thanks to the program “A House is a Home”, Somfy Group subsidiaries can commit themselves alongside with Somfy Foundation

And concretely, how does it work?

Each year, the subsidiaries that are willing to support a NGO, identify a project to be co-financed with Somfy Foundation, in the field of decent housing for the most disadvantaged people. Both give a financial support that can be completed with employee skills volunteering

What happened in 2021 for Somfy Foundation International Program?

In 2021, 7 projects were financially supported together with Somfy Group subsidiaries and Somfy Foundation:

Habitat for Humanity :

  • Australia: housing assistance following the fires that destroyed the country
  • Romania: assistance with access to decent housing for 12 families

Poil de Carotte / SOMFY France: two emergency accommodation units were built

Progetto Arca / SOMFY Italy: emergency accommodation center for homeless people and their pets

Arrèls / SOMFY Spain: housing and social reintegration assistance for people in need

Techo / SOMFY Mexico: construction of houses for people in emergency situations

Karm Marg / SOMFY India: covid emergency aid

Other financial support was granted in 2021

Habitat for Humanity

  • Haiti : emergency aid following earthquakes
  • Ivory Coast: improvement of living conditions in Dida village
  • Housing Forum: forum for collaborative solutions on housing

Many initiatives have been carried out as well, in many of our subsidiaries, such as collections of clothing, food, books and toys for the benefit of NGOs supported by our colleagues in the subsidiaries

In 2021, “A House is a Home” represented 13 solidarity missions carried out, 52 employees engaged for a total of 58 days of solidarity on 3 different continents

But who is Habitat for Humanity?

A historical partnership with Somfy Foundation !

It all started in 2014, 7 years ago, in the favela of Heliopolis, Brazil

Our local subsidiaries have helped almost 500 people to live in better homes + 750 people with community-wide projects
More than 100 of Somfy employees have offered a hand up as volunteers to support families in need

Somfy Foundation also took part to the Housing Forum : a conference organized by Habitat for Humanity International, alongside multiple partners and donors, that gathers under one roof major stakeholders engaged in seeking solutions to affordable housing issues and promotes decent housing as a driver of economic growth.

Topics covered: covid-19, climate change, migration, justice and equity through the housing ecosystem, sustainable development goals

The objectives of the housing forum were:

  • Promote and advocate for inclusive, affordable, equitable and healthy housing in Europe;
  • Develop a common vision and capacities to scale up the low-income housing sector in Europe;
  • Promote leaders and sector players with innovative and impactful housing initiatives through sharing of best practices that include Public-Private-People partnerships
  • Reward and celebrate the most innovative affordable housing solutions in Europe.

Somfy Foundation wanted to support a meaningful event that advocates for affordable, decent and safe housing

New projects will be supported in collaboration with Somfy Group subsidiaries and with the support of Somfy Foundation

Furthermore, the Ukrainian crisis has strengthened ties with Habitat for Humanity. An exceptional grant was given to the NGO to contribute to the assistance provided to Ukrainian families.

Our subsidiaries have contributed alongside Somfy Foundation to the financial needs reported by Habitat for Humanity and have mobilized themselves in numerous initiatives to help Ukrainian families.

Other subsidiaries will carry out projects dear to their hearts, as a way to contribute to build a better world for the future generations.

The aim of the survey was to gain a better understanding of their relationship with skills sponsorship and solidarity, and also to gain a better understanding of their expectations of the Foundation and the nature of their commitment.<br /> An initial workshop on the theme of &lsquo;evaluating our partnership and collaboration&rsquo; was organised at the end of the year with a representative panel of our partner associations, 12 in all, some of them long-standing and others new. This workshop was the first step in measuring our impact. The initiative will be continued with individual interviews with each participating association to measure our impact in greater detail.</p> <p>The SOMFY Foundation&#39;s ultimate goal is to measure our impact annually, both internally among SOMFY employees and externally among our partners. In this way, the SOMFY Foundation will be able to take the pulse of its stakeholders once a year on what has worked well and assess our growth opportunities together.</p> <h2 style="text-align: center;">MERCI !&nbsp;</h2> <p style="text-align: justify;">This new year of solidarity with associations and employees has enabled the Foundation to affirm its message: Everyone, at their own level, everywhere in the world, can act and have a positive impact on the planet, and contribute through their actions to making the world a better place.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] alice.padovan1 [empty string] 2024-07-26 00:00:00.0 [empty string] 2024-07-26 14:49:57.0 [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] 0 [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] /common/img/library//Pour_bilan_2023.png [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] 1 0 0 0 0 1 0 [empty string] 1 1018 [empty string] 2024-01-12-somfy-foundation-looks-back-on-2023 [empty string] en-en alice.padovan1 3 [empty string] ECA212DE-A6B3-03DE-20DE792B9388DA72 [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] 0 [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] 2024-01-12 00:00:00.0 56A1440D-F00E-F0EE-4EFDD5EBFDE74FB6 [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] 873B3FDD-F2CC-D070-A954693BF7FC1610 0 2024-01-12 00:00:00.0 1 1 FONDATION_V3-1111111111111111111111 5 2 [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] 2023 has been an incredible year! 4 [empty string] 0 [empty string] [empty string] 0 [empty string] <h2 style="text-align: center;">What is a solidarity challenge?</h2> <p style="text-align: justify;">It&#39;s SOMFY Foundation&#39;s event format.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">A challenge takes the form of a 3-hour workshop, bringing together the NGO, the facilitation team (a facilitator and a SOMFY time keeper) and the volunteers.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">The challenge aims to respond to an issue raised by an NGO, by seeking a different perspective, complementary to that of the associative world, that of the company.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">SOMFY employees come from all walks of life, and use their creative and collective energy to provide the NGOs with as many ideas as possible.</p> <h2 style="text-align: center;">How is SOMFY Foundation preparing for this event?</h2> <p style="text-align: justify;">It&#39;s a long-term project, which requires a lot of anticipation.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Every year, the SOMFY Foundation offers its partner NGOs the chance to experience collective intelligence, by taking part to the solidarity challenges, starting in June. This format is mainly proposed to new NGOs that have not yet had this experience, and also to NGOs with older partnerships that have a problem they would like volunteers to work on.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">Once they have given their agreement, the NGOs have a fairly substantial period of work with Adrien and Rose from <a href="https://www.probonolab.org/fr/">ProbonoLab</a>, a SOMFY Foundation partner and skills sponsorship specialist, between July and September. A complete diagnosis is made with the association, enabling the problem to emerge that will be proposed during the challenges.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">SOMFY Foundation then takes over from the beginning of October until the November challenges, and supports the NGOs from start to finish by offering several workshops: a meeting with employees, a workshop on solidarity challenges methodology, a workshop on &quot;efficient presentation&quot; and a final workshop on &quot;feedback&quot;.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">At the same time, SOMFY Foundation is looking for volunteers to run the challenges, and for volunteers to take part to the challenges, even up to the day before the solidarity challenges.</p> <h2 style="text-align: center;">Why is this a challenge? And why is there a timekeeper in the facilitation team?</h2> <p style="text-align: justify;">Because employees and NGOs only have 3 hours to get to know each other, make alliances, work together and come up with the best ideas. And time flies. Hence the importance of the timekeeper&#39;s presence. This is a key role. It&#39;s the timekeeper who keeps track of the time of each sequence, informs the group and reframes any drift. He or she completely relieves the moderator of time management, so that participants can concentrate solely on the content.</p> <h2 style="text-align: center;">Who is present this year?</h2> <p style="text-align: justify;">This year, 6 &quot;French&quot; NGOs and 2 &quot;international&quot; NGOs are pleased to come and meet us. SOMFY Foundation has chosen to have 2 NGOs representing each of its fields of action:</p> <ul> <li style="text-align: justify;">Poor housing and social ties: Habitat et Humaine and Entraide Internationale des Scouts de Cluses</li> <li style="text-align: justify;">Environment: Hopika and Ecotrivelo</li> <li style="text-align: justify;">Equal opportunities: Apprentis d&#39;Auteuil and Energie Jeunes</li> <li style="text-align: justify;">International &quot;A house is a home&quot; program: <a href="https://www.habitat.org/emea">Habitat for Humanity</a> and <a href="https://www.acted.org/fr/">Acted</a></li> </ul> <h2 style="text-align: center;">How many employees will be involved?</h2> <p style="text-align: justify;">In all, more than 80 employees will be giving their time and ideas to the associations on the same day. The energy generated by this mobilization in record time is impressive.</p> <h2 style="text-align: center;">What happens next?</h2> <p style="text-align: justify;">The NGOs will have time after the Solidarity Challenges to review all the ideas contributed by the employees. They leave with all the materials they need to take them back and present them to their salaried and/or volunteer colleagues.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;">A get-together is organized every year in June. The main idea is to get together, catch up and see how the associations are getting on. Of course, they also talk about what they&#39;ve been able to put in place following the challenges.</p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>To be continued in 2024...</strong></p> [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] ba.pochat [empty string] 2023-11-14 00:00:00.0 [empty string] 2023-11-14 00:00:00.0 [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] 0 [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] /common/img/library//vignette_DS_min.png [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] 1 0 0 0 0 1 0 [empty string] 1 323 [empty string] 2023-11-14-a-new-edition-for-somfy-foundation-s-solidarity-challenges [empty string] en-en ba.pochat 4 [empty string] 0DB71B9F-C004-4159-0BE68F20D5BE5D04 [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] 0 [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] 2023-11-14 00:00:00.0 0DB71B9F-C004-4159-0BE68F20D5BE5D04 [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] 873B3FDD-F2CC-D070-A954693BF7FC1610 0 2023-11-14 00:00:00.0 1 1 FONDATION_V3-1111111111111111111111 5 2 [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] [empty string] Each year, SOMFY Foundation launches a call for volunteers to support NGOs in their reflections.
