In partnership with the Lazare association

Fighting exclusion is a daily challenge for Lazare. It’s innovative idea is to rent shared apartments for homeless people and young active volunteers.
Lazare project is developed in Brussels to house and welcome women and men, young active and deprived people, as well as a volunteer family.

bounce back and moving forward with lazare

People who previously lived on the street can stay in Lazare as long as they need to bounce back in life. Beyond a shared roof, young volunteers and people who were homeless share privileged moments that they will always remember. Lazare is more than a family, it is conviviality, love, sharing spirit and joy of being together...

Little by little, men and women who were homeless start loving themselves again and regain the dignity that they had lost on the street. Lazare is also a place of human enrichment for young professionals who have a lot to learn from those who have been homeless.

A chosen family coordinates the place, ensures the proper functioning, welcomes new roommates, calms down tensions and make sure that people can live in good conditions and reintegrate socially. The role of the family is really important to bring happiness in everyday life...

From Homeless Shelter to an Apartment

Thanks to Lazare, 4 homeless people in Brussels are living in a shared apartment with 4 young volunteers.

A team of 10 young people are mobilized to increase the awareness about the Lazare project around their network and regularly organize meetings in BrusselsLazare's association has found one apartment in Brussels to launch the project. Since December 2017 in Brussels, 3 volunteers and 3 homeless men have been identified and to live together in the city center. One family is taking care of them. In January 2018, the Lazare’s objective is to find the other two remaining roomates.

In the future, Lazare wants to reinforce its actions in Brussels and find an appartment to welcome women…

LAZARE BELGIUM

"Opening Lazare in a new country, in this case Belgium, is a great adventure. We are responding to new stakes, including adapting the project to Belgian culture. We therefore rely on a local team, which allows us to meet this challenge. Since the beginning (February 2016), the Belgians are very mobilized by the development of the project in their country because Lazare responds to a real need on their territory."
